Flip for Free Flapjacks

It’s that time of year again, kind of, so IHOP is at it once again. They’ve got so many pancakes they’re literally giving them away. You’d think they’re crazy or something and maybe they are a little bit. That I don’t know, but I do know they’re crazy about kids and us kids are crazy about their pancakes.

Ample joy for free pancakes.
Ample joy for free pancakes.

It goes down a little something like this: IHOP gives away pancakes to celebrate Pancake Day and people come in to gobble ‘em all up, and then because you’re so full of nummy goodness you might feel charitable and drop a nickel or a five-spot helping children in need.

Not just children in need of pancakes because that’s where IHOP needs no help.

But the big thing is I’m not kidding, they’re actually giving away free pancakes today. Don’t believe me? I know I’ve made some fairly spurious claims in the past but this meal is the real deal.

Seriously, Tuesday February 12th, 2008 is the day they’re really and truly giving away short stacks of pancakes even to short stacks like us. Hey, that rhymes doesn’t it?*

We went in last year to celebrate, and the year before that too. It’s impractically a tradition with us.

And the money raised in each city goes to the Children’s Miracle Network to support child hospitals in that area. I don’t mean a child hospital like it’s little or like all the doctors are kids, but that it helps kids who get sick.

I’m off to sleep off this syrup crash but I’m not sorry. I’m not sorry at all.

* Upon reflection I’ve come to understand that it doesn’t just rhyme those are the same words.

Above - Although you can't read them so good, those are some donation balloons we bought to help the less fortunate. Pancakes may be free but getting well can be very expensive.
