Seabrook Vacation Helps Us Get Away, Relax, Dream
Posted Friday, December 12 @ 02:00:00 PST by Brendan
Life can be stressful sometimes, and we know it as well as anybody. Our preschool, kindergarten and 4th grade lives are hectic. We've got homework that goes even beyond tracing letters and counting numbers, plus we have to play a bunch, plus we run one of the biggest syndicated parenting advices columns of the century. Sometimes we just need a few days to ourselves, and Seabrook, Washington is just what the doctor ordered.

A Child's Christmas in Wales by Stone Soup Theatre
Posted Thursday, December 11 @ 03:00:00 PST by Brendan
Stone Soup Theatre in Seattle, Washington, is proud to present their 3rd annual showing of "A Child's Christmas in Wales." I've never seen it before, but then again I've only seen non-puppet live theater once in my life, and it was much too hot to be Christmas. This was a fun show on many levels, so let me run down the reasons I recommend it.

Northwest Puppet's Version of Cinderella Equal Parts Unique & Fun
Posted Wednesday, December 10 @ 02:00:00 PST by Brendan
We've been reviewing puppet shows at Northwest Puppet Center for about three years now, and the new and varied offerings they put up each season never cease to amaze us. This year's debut show is no exception, though it is exceptional. It's a Cinderella story of sorts, in that it's literally a Cinderella story.

Point Defiance ZooLights Kicks Off Holiday Season Right
Posted Tuesday, December 09 @ 02:00:00 PST by Brendan
Now in its 21st year, the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium in Tacoma, Washington is pleased and proud to present their ZooLights display. With more than a half million lights on display, this show is as good as any you'll find in an uppity neighborhood, and still better in many ways, and well worth the bundled-up evening you'll spend with your youngsters in tow.

Cougar Mountain Zoo Welcomes Santa Plus His Reindeer
Posted Monday, December 08 @ 07:00:00 PST by Brendan
December first through 23rd of each year, the Cougar Mountain Zoo in Issaquah welcomes the real Santa Claus to their landing-convenient north-facing slope. I've seen my fair share of fake Santas over the years, but none bothered to bring a full complement of reindeer along for the illusion. That means Cougar Mountain Zoo has the real guy, and if you want your perfect presents, you'd better swoop in and see him.

Ivar's Clam Lights Disproves Myriad Mollusk Myths
Posted Sunday, December 07 @ 23:00:00 PST by Brendan
Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park (originally Lake Washington Beach Park) is a huge 55 acre surf n' turf park at the southeast corner of Lake Washington. We went down for the annual tree lighting ceremony, and found out there are many trees that are set alight and then the surprising real excitement is the Clam Lighting… wait a second, clams aren't luminescent, even I know that!

Museum of the Rockies Got Dinos & Space Trips a’ Plenty
Posted Friday, December 05 @ 02:00:00 PST by Brendan
There was a place we went to fairly early in our travels that struck us so singularly we just didn't know how to properly cover it short of spending three or four days writing it up. The Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman, Montana has so much to see, experience and enjoy, it was a real struggle to figure out what to write up to truly pay them tribute. So after much deliberation, delay, and staff meetings we finally decided the single best feature of the place is everything.
