 Viva la Bam. |
If you know Bam Margera or have seen his show, Viva la Bam, you can appreciate what a rich life one gets by goofing around with friends and family as a profession.
His show is a delightful mix of play, humor, and reality. He gets to be a semi-typical heiney pain-type kid, while still remaining tight with his family. Thanks to the virtue of spectators, it gets its noma proclaimed viva. Kind of reminds me of what we do here at Perplexing Times.
We hang out, stay in, go out, do stuff, harass each other and document it all in glorious living color for the entertainment hungry viewing public. It's souped up reality programming in the family setting. It's all real, but with extra drama liberally sprinkled all over it to keep things lively.
See it now, I hope, I told you Bam and me got the greatest job.
Just like Bam, we did it from scratch. He started by making his own movies, the CKY series, and bringing them to market himself, regardless of the big dogs and regardless of the market. He moved up to co-star in the documentary series, Jackass, but when its novelty wore thin and expired, he kept his family-inclusive business alive in fine form.
The big difference is that he gets paid enough to sustain a whole family, while we do it in more of an indentured servacious capacity. Just like in Bam's early days, it's a labor of love with nothing in it for my parents, unless you count grief, which I'm told all parents certainly do.
It would be great to land a widespread deal to do what we do on a scale more grand, maybe even on some cable channel. I'm sure we'd be perpetually interesting, but this oversight is okay with us. Cable or not, I still love what we do, and the parents swear by it too. More swearing "at" than "by", but still.
So here's my closing advice:
If you don't know Viva la Bam, check it out on MTV2.
If you don't know Perplexing Times, check it out, um, well, right here, where you already are.
And if you're a reality show executive looking for the next big thing, then here you go baby, look no further, just check us out. We're ready for it, so check it out like a library book baby. Slick, no?
Viva la Bam, viva la resistance, viva la viva itself, and viva la Perplexing Times.

Above - As you can see by his hand gestures, even Patrick has got the hang of this hard rocking life we live, and he ain't even "punk rock."
