Indeed Goes Round but Merry Harder to Sell
We’ve been on a sweeping tour of the finest attractions our city has to offer for fun and festivity to those of us who haven’t a nickel. Yes, I’m talking about parks, but there’s this merry-go-round thing I’ve heard of but rarely seen. Their mostly gone, but I found one, and I have to say there’s a bit of false advertising in the title.
(Original article appeared here.)
Your parents might remember the merry-go-round as the centerpiece of any playground when they were (never) children, but they’re pretty much gone these days. Something about speed, steel, soft children and imminent danger, but I won’t get in to the details too much. I’m fearless and bulletproof, but now that I’ve had the big experience, let’s add to that list “disappointed.”
It does go “round”, I’ll give it that; but where’s the “merry”? I’m looking around and trying to find it, but it’s kind of whatchamacallit, dull.
I sat, I spun, I waited for something merry, and I gave it up.
So if you’re weighing the tradition of keeping such a merry-go-yawn in your local playground against the dangers it may pose, consider for a minute that it may not be all it’s cracked up to be, unless of course the crack you’re thinking of is on someone’s head.

Above - Here's a bigger shot of the lead photo, but even with all the added perspective, you can't much tell whether or not it's any fun... take that as your best warning.
